as of 4:32 a.m. on september 14th, i officially turned 30. an age that many dread. an age that is the ending of a very momentous decade. an age that i am thrilled to now be.
when looking back at my twenties, i am glad to have lived it, thankful for all that has come from it, but even more grateful i am through it. it was a decade of self examination and tremendous growth. i began my twenties very insecure and even more uncertain of what God had in store for me. in the past decade i graduated from college, met steve, married steve, began my career, bought a fixer-upper, fixed it up, had my first son,got my masters degree, stepped back from my career, had my second son, started a journey into adoption, stepped back into my career, and worried most of the time that i was not doing any of these things good enough.
and in a very cliche, opraesque way, i do feel that i am much wiser for the journey. so as i enter into this new era of my life, i look forward to the many lessons waiting in my thirties and pray that they will add to my new found wisdom.
i think these lyrics by tim mcgraw sum it up best...
my next thirty years
i think I’ll take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page
Now it’s time to focus in on where I go from here
Lord have mercy on my next thirty years
Hey my next thirty years I’m gonna have some fun
Try to forget about all the crazy things I’ve done
Maybe now I’ve conquered all my adolescent fears
And I’ll do it better in my next thirty years
My next thirty years I’m gonna settle all the scores
Cry a little less, laugh a little more
Find a world of happiness without the hate and fear
Figure out just what I’m doing here
In my next thirty years
Oh my next thirty years, I’m gonna watch my weight
Eat a few more salads and not stay up so late
Drink a little lemonade and not so many beers
Maybe I’ll remember my next thirty years
My next thirty years will be the best years of my life
Raise a little family and hang out with my wife
Spend precious moments with the ones that I hold dear
Make up for lost time here ,In my next thirty years
In my next thirty years
