a rainy weekend it has been! but a wonderful weekend because we can listen to the rain through open windows... for the past two days they boys have been watching the rain outside the window, making scared faces each time they hear thunder and singing it's raining it's pouring. growing up we used to sing this song all of the time, and i never thought anything of it. but now as an adult i wonder why is this such a great song to sing?if you pay attention to the lyrics, it's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring, he went to be and bumped his head, (ok, this is the part i have a hard time with)... and didn't get up in the morning. is there a second verse to this song that i somehow missed years ago? did the poor man die? have a concussion?
while we are on the topic...what about rock-a-bye baby? the bow breaks and the baby falls down....it doesn't sound like a happy ending to me, but for some reason i sing it to elliott every night when i drop him into bed. what other songs should parents think about before singing?
