I lied about brushing my teeth.
I didn't want to play with ________ today.
I grabbed two cookies instead of one.
Each day, we tell our secrets. We tell them around the table, while snuggling in bed and any time we find ourselves in a funk.
We all know how important it is for us to show up for each others secrets, to be vulnerable alongside the secret teller. We listen. We relate. We talk through it together. We normalize. We celebrate when truth is discovered and when lies are banished.
Most times our secrets are small.
But sometimes our secrets come from the deepest parts of our hearts. The deep, deep places where if secrets are held too long, can turn into bitterness or fear, shame or anger.
Something has changed since we started sharing our secrets. We talk more. We understand each other better, and we all rest a little easier knowing we aren't carrying our secrets alone.
